EAP has a Social Programme that we carry out mainly in Ramadan where we provide for the needy students and families during the Holy Month. However, we would like to ensure that we are there for the Palestinians at every stage of the annual year. We now have 2 occasions for Social Programmes with needy families which include Ramadan and Eid Al-Adha. Families in Palestine will now receive both an Eid gift in Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha. The Social Programme for Eid Al-Adha will include Qurbani (Udhiya in Arabic). We do not want our brothers and sisters in Palestine to miss the chance of receiving Qurbani as it is very costly in Palestine ranging between £300-£350 whereas, in other countries, it ranges around £50 or even less. We would like to aid their difficult situation and would like you to help us achieve this. The options for giving Qurbani to Palestine this Eid Al-Adha 2019 are as follows:
Please help us give Qurbani to the families we help throughout the year – help us spread the blessings to Palestine this Eid Al-Adha! Read on for more details about EAP’s new Qurbani Social Programme.
Qurbani or Udhiyah holds a special place in Islam. It is the religious sacrifice of an animal for the glorification of Allah between the 10th and 12th days of Dhul Hijjah, in the final month of the Islamic calendar. Muslims sacrifice and honour the tradition of the Prophet Ibrahim (AS) by sacrificing an animal and distributing the meat to those in need. Qurbani meat provides a healthy protein packed food resource to families enduring poverty in Palestine.
The Prophet (saw) said: “It is the Sunnah of your father Ibrahim (as). For every hair of the Qurbani you receive a reward from Allah (swt).”
Food poverty in Palestine is on the rise including 2 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip who are food insecure. 1 in 2 people living in Gaza go to bed every night with an empty stomach. The suffering and the tragedy in Palestine is worsening day by day, and donations for Palestinians has lessened since the Muslim Ummah has been struggling. The demand for help is increasing. Qurbani payments are absolutely essential in providing these vulnerable Palestinian families with nutritious food to support them and ease their hunger.
Meat is also a rare luxury in Palestine because of the high costs. This is why your support will help families have meat on Eid, which may be one of the few times a year they eat fresh meat! When families receive Qurbani meat, it fosters a real sense of hope for them and allows them to celebrate this important occasion along with millions of other Muslims across the world. This is an opportunity to bring joy to our suffering brothers and sisters in Palestine while simultaneously fulfilling our obligations to Allah SWT this Eid Al-Adha. Directing your Qurbani and Sadaqah to struggle Palestinian families can bring great rewards for you and so much happiness for them. Together, let’s spread the blessings of Eid to Palestine.
Qurbani Option 1 – Fresh Qurbani
This is standard Qurbani according to Islamic Sharia where the sacrifice of an animal takes place. The animal is slaughtered and the fresh meat is distributed in our areas of operation shortly after to the needy families across Palestine including the Gaza Strip. The Qurbani meat allows some of these families to eat fresh meat after a whole year.
Qurbani Option 2 – Canned Qurbani
This is a cheaper form of Qurbani which is canned. Qurbani meat delivered to the families would normally have to be eaten within the first few days as they have no means of preserving and saving the supplies for later. Therefore, canned Qurbani can be more beneficial as By packing food in cans, it can be saved and stored for months and even years. The meat can then be eaten on the days of Eid and also stored away for later consumption.
Qurbani Option 3 – Sadaqah
EAP is offering a third option for giving Qurbani this Eid Al-Adha 2019 which includes giving Sadaqah for participating in Qurbani in general.
Paying your Qurbani with EAP means that you can guarantee that all of your donations will reach those who need it most. We identify the families who would greatly benefit from a Qurbani parcel. Those who receive the Qurbani meat include widowed women, orphaned children, refugees and poor, elderly or disabled people. For the majority of these people, meat is not part of their regular diet. For many people, this will be the only time of year that they can eat meat. Our goal is to enable as many of our students and needy families as possible to enjoy nutritious food on the festival of Eid.
Please contact EAP to fulfil your Qurbani obligations and reach out to our brothers and sisters during this blessed time.
As we learn from our prophet Muhammad (Pbuh): whoever brings happiness to anyone, he will be rewarded Jannah. And when is it a better time to bring happiness to someone?
